National Junior Honor Society is a group of talented students who are recognized for their extraordinary academic achievements. Every student in NJHS strives to show good leadership and to make our community better. They help out by volunteering within the community; animal shelters, food banks, and NCL (National Charity League) are some great examples.
NJHS Officer Allyson Tate states, “I was inspired to be in NJHS because I believe it will help build my personal development, make a great impact on myself and the school, help build my leadership skills, and help me in the future. I am so grateful to be a part of the NJHS committee.”
For over a decade, Mrs. Houston-Martin has been the leader of the National Junior Honor Society at McLean. With her love for community service and helping others, she expresses, “McLean’s National Junior Honor Society helps community members by donating many items to local charities. Last year alone, we donated over 600 pounds of food to WestAid for their food pantry. Students who are members and actively participate in the National Junior Honor Society develop the service and leadership potential to help countless other individuals throughout their lives.”
Every month, the group meets in the library before school. At each meeting, the group discusses important matters and ways to positively affect the school and community. Some examples from last year are the canned food drive, clothes donation, and pet food drive.
The National Junior Honor Society is a group of students who lead our school through their responsibility, citizenship, and work in our community. If you see any of these leaders in the hallway, look up to them; they are the school’s role models.
