McLean ELA Teacher, Mr. Torres, Wins “Best English Teacher In FWISD”

Lucy Hinkle, Editor In Chief

On Monday, October 31, 8th grade English teacher, Mr. Torres, was led into the auditorium, not knowing of the nearly one hundred kids awaiting his arrival. Once he entered, the entire room erupted in cheers and applause while he walked to the stage confused. There he met Mrs. Ozuna, our principal at McLean, who announced that he had won the Chase Chair for Teaching Excellence in Secondary English award!

This award is only given to one English teacher in all of FWISD each year, so the fact that it was given to a teacher at McLean is a HUGE deal! Not only does it come with a financial prize for the winner, but the winning school is also gifted with a banner for their achievement! Mr. Torres will also go to a luncheon with other winners and have the chance to make a speech!

He says that he is very grateful for this award and that it wouldn’t have been possible without his wonderful colleagues and PHENOMENAL students and- of course- signed off his message with a “RAWR!!”

Congratulations Mr. Torres! We are so proud!
