Unfortunately, this morning, our school and many others across the country were named in an online threat. This threat was not serious but it, like all threats, was taken seriously by our administration. While students and parents were concerned, nobody panicked and the school went into a preventative security mode. Many other schools in the Dallas Fort worth area also received threats that were treated seriously. Fortunately, as I write this, it is the end of the day and nothing unusual has happened. These threats are merely threats and will not likely be acted upon. At this time, FWISD and DISD do not know who initially sent these threats.
This morning when I went to the auditorium and was ready to head to class at the normal time, the teachers were instructed to not let us dismiss. Instead many security measures were taken that I was very impressed with. The efficiency of said measures was impecable, and all the teachers and staff were very reassuring. Although 1st period did start late, I’m glad I got to witness the competence of the school’s safety precautions.
If there ever was a real shooting at school, we would go into a secure lockdown immediately, and the most any student could do would be to remain calm and listen to the teachers instructions like we have been practicing since Kindergarten. Sadly, we live in a time period where the reality of having a school shooter is plausible. I hope that we never ever as a school come into contact with one, but please remember that things like this are serious. Teachers’ and students’ lives alike have been taken at other schools, and it is not something to joke about. All in all, remember to be mindful, Cardinals. We can get through this together.
