- The Hunger Games
Almost everyone I have ever talked to has read hunger games or is reading it. It is a dystopian novel written by Suzanne Collins about the main character, Katniss Everdeen, a poor girl from District Twelve. Soon, Reaping Day, an event that chooses someone from the ages 12-18 to fight in a deadly event called the Hunger Games, comes around. The winner of this event gets bathed in riches, and only one person can win. Prim, Katniss’ sister has many nightmares about being chosen until the day finally arrives. When the day finally does arrive, somehow, Prim gets picked. Instead of letting her sister go, Katniss volunteers herself for her sister in a selfless act of bravery. Now in the game, what will her fate be?
2. Percy Jackson Series
The Percy Jackson series was an award winning series and led most kids to an obssesion and uncanny knoweldge of Greek Gods. The books start with young Percy Jackson. His mother was poor and struggling; she was working at a candy shop everyday until she married Percy’s stepfather. Percy goes to a new school with his friend who, unbeknownst to him, is a Martyr. Later, Percy sees some strange occurrences right before he goes on a field trip to learn about the Olympians. While outside, one of Percy’s friend’s bully’s was bullying him, so Percy “threw” him into a fountain. Percy never even touched them, but his teacher still pulled him aside and tries to kill him! He ends up making it out alive and his mom finds out. They leave in Percy’s stepfather’s car and head to their lake house. While driving, a storm arose and his mom ushered him into the car saying that someone or something was after them…
