Allegedly, the newest reward system coming to McLean will be a valued profit system called “cardinal cash” or “birdie bucks”. These can be cashed in for snacks, sodas, and other fun rewards. You might have noticed Ms. Ozuna mention it during the assembly on Friday, August 23, 2024, although it is also very possible that this comment she made was lost to the chatter. While we don’t know the date these will be released, we do know that they should be released sometime this year. Below you can see some interviews from students I inquired about their thoughts on the “cardinal cash”. I included 2 views I found from the students at our school. One negative and one positive.:
Fernanda, 8th grade:
“I think it’s a good idea, but will end in chaos. I mean… Won’t people just phto copy it?
Interviewer:
“Allegedly, the teachers that give it to you are supposed to sign it to prove it’s not copied.”
Fernanda, 8th grade:
“That’ll make it better, but won’t students just copy it with the signature?”
Interviewer:
“I guess that is something to think about. Thanks for your views Fernanda!”
Fernanda, 8th grade:
“Anytime. I gotta get to 1st period, bye!”
Annie Groat, 8th grade:
“I would love that idea! I’d definitly buy some snacks and drinks and share them with my friends.”
Interviewer:
“Do you perosnally think that the system is fair?”
Annie Groat, 8th grade:
“Yeah. I mean, the good kids who do good things get rewarded and the kids who aren’t doing what they are supposed to don’t. Seems fair to me.”
Interviewer:
“Thank you for your time Annie, I gotta run. Bye!”
Annie Groat, 8th grade:
“Bye!”
