Next week McLean Middle School will go through their MOY (Middle of the year) MAP testing. These tests will be compared to your BOY (Beginning of the year) MAP testing scores and eventually your EOY (End of year) MAP testing scores so it is important to do your best. If you have a short attention span or just in general don’t like tests, this can be hard for you as your mind wanders easily. Some things to do to counterattack this roaming of the brain can be found below:
1.Keep your area organized – When testing, it can be easy to have your workspace a mess, but it can help you so much if your area is neat. Have all of your pencils, scratch paper, erasers, and highliters on one side of the desk, and on the otherside keep your Macbook. I would also suggest to bring a water bottle with you, but keep it on the ground so it doesn’t accidentally spill and ruin your Macbook and paper.
2.Reward yourself with breaks – If there is a clock in your testing room, I would suggest setting a time (maybe 15-20 minutes into the future) and until the time has been met on a clock, work your hardest on the test until then. When the clock hits the time you set, you can take a break. This can include going to the bathroom, getting some water, getting atissue, or even a doodle break on your scratch paper. Take a break for about 5 minutes, then keep going again. This tehnique is great because it gives you something to work for and lets your mind find another thing to do to stimulate it.
3.Skip some questions- If you come across a question that is really hard and you spend a lot more time on it than the others, skip it for now and come back later. This will give your mind some time to think about it in the back of your head, and whne you finish the rest of your test you can come back to it and see what your mind came up with while you were away.
