It is rumored that once you get out of elementary, kids no longer go out for recess, but is that true? Here at Mclean, students have the option to stay inside during recess or they can go outside. Although some students stay inside in the AC, most students still go outside!
Students can walk the track, play soccer, football, pass around a volleyball, or just enjoy the cool weather. Recess is held in the courtyard and the grass surrounding it. Not to mention the shaded tables where you can sit if you’re not into physical activity. Don’t worry about not having space at a table or being excluded due to the number of kids outside because recess is split up depending on what lunch you have!
It is scientifically proven that students who go outside for recess have a higher likelihood of staying focused and on task in the classroom, which all teachers definitely would like from their students. So, the answer is yes, some students still go outside for recess but there is always room for more.
