McLean Cheer Tryouts Go Out With A Bang

McLean Cheer Tryouts Go Out With A Bang

Nicola Renegar

McLean has a great cheer department lead by Coach Sherill and Assistant Coach Kurz. After this year’s end of cheer season, McLean held an early cheer tryouts for next year. McLean cheer tryouts took place on Saturday, April 2nd. All week there was clinic for kids to learn the basic cheer skills. These days consisted of learning to jump, cheer, chant, and spirit. For those of you that do not cheer, spiriting is when, after a cheer you get the crowd going and hyped. You can say a series of phrases or just say one phrase along with arm motions. Some phrases are “Go Big Red” or “We Are #1!”. After a week of cheer practice after school, all of the kids put their skills to the test.

When the time of tryouts came, the worries arose. Those who came early had the chance to stretch and practice. After starting, everyone lined up out of the gym and waited for their turn. For anyone that wants to tryout next year, this is how tryouts went. When it was your turn, you were only required to spirit in, do your jumps, and your chant and a cheer in a group of 3.

Congratulations to all of the 6th graders and 7th graders that tried out. If you do not make it, always remember that this is not the only year you can try out and practice makes perfect! Congrats to all!
