Serving up a swirly sweet

Sahana Talwar

Around the holidays people start baking cookies. With cookies there are infinite possibilities of what you could make. One interesting cookie you might consider making is a swirl cookie.

  • 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cups white sugar
  • egg
  • teaspoon vanilla extract
  •  food coloring
  • optional: add your own ingredients to add flavor (anything that turns the dough a dark color will be hard to recolor)

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Mix all your ingredients together, or if you want to be fancy mix the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, and baking powder), and in a separate bowl mix the other ingredients (not the food coloring) and mix both bowls together.

Separate the bowl into as many parts as you want and put them on a counter or into their own bowls.

Add the food coloring either by mixing it in or working it in with your hands.

Roll each of the pieces out to the same size. (the more pieces the thinner the pieces should be)

Lay each piece of dough on top of each other until they’re all stacked. Then start at one end and roll it tightly.

Cut the dough into pieces.

Prepare a cookie sheet, and put the dough onto it leaving some space in-between cookies in case they expand.

Put them into the oven and set a timer for ten minutes. If they’re not done, put them back in the oven and check every 2-5 minutes.

Once they come out they should be swirled and tasty

Enjoy your treat!
