How to Make a Podcast

Abigail Walters

Something that is on the rise in popularity lately is podcasting. The great thing about it is that anyone can make one! Here’s how:

Pick your topic

Think about what you are passionate about. Is it reading? Making up stories? Interviewing people about their life? These are some of the incredible topics you can choose.

Pick your team

Who will do your podcast with you? Podcasts don’t all have the same number of hosts. Plan how many people will be on each episode according to your topic. Also remember that if you don’t want the same person on each episode you could have guests.

No good podcast comes without some research. Even if you think you are an expert on the topic you choose, make sure you know what you are talking about before you put it out on the internet for everyone to hear.

Pick a platform

When you make a podcast, you use a website/app where you edit, record, and save all your podcast files. Some are paid and some are free, so research and find out what fits you best! Here are some recommendations: is a great platform for beginners. You don’t need any equipment for recording except for your device microphone! It is completely free and even has tools for monetization. Also, if you want to switch to another platform, you can do that in a few clicks.

Buzzsprout is awesome as well and is best for intermediate and advanced podcasters. It is paid and has advanced features that suit someone who has podcasted before best.

Remember, these are just a few from the large selection of platforms you can use.

Create a Logo

Use a graphic design program to create and upload a logo. Make sure it corresponds to your podcast topic and has your podcast title in it.

Write and record!

Not all podcasts need scripts but they are a great starting point for a first-timer. Write down what you are going to say and where you may pause to put sound effects. Once that is done, record! It is totally fine to go off script once in a while. It makes you seem more confident in what you are doing.

Publish it!

Most platforms have a distribution tool. You can either manually or automatically submit your podcast to listening apps like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and PocketCasts. Wait a little while and boom! Your podcast is officially online.

That’s all folks. As you can see, you can create a podcast in a few simple steps. Just remember to have fun with it!
